Old Wives Tales and other Sayings

Some of the best memories I have growing up was sitting around listening to some of the old wives tales and saying that have been passed down from generation to generation. You can probably guess what the first one is. Step on a crack break your mothers back. ( as a kid this scared the daylights out of me, I remember running home crying because I thought I really hurt my mom ).

Bad luck to step over a broom.
I'm not sure if anyone knows this one. Still to this day my mom makes me step backward over a broom if i have crossed it.

Playing with fire makes you wet the bed. As a kid you couldn't get me to go near fire even a camp fire was out for me.

Step on a cricket you have bad luck. Okay how many of you out there had a vivid imagination, this was chicken in our play house. along with juniper berries, grass, dirt (for mud pies ).
Those are my favorites. Here's a few more to get you thinking of some you've heard over the years.
5.When a bell rings, An Angel gets their wings.
6. Honey and Whiskey takes a cough away
7. When you shiver, it means someone has stepped on your grave.
8.If a Lady bug lands on you it means good luck
9. If your ear itches someones talking about you.
10. If you sweep someones feet with a broom it's bad luck.
11. Bad luck for two people to mess in one persons head.
12. Bad luck for a Man to lay a hat on the bed.
13. Bad luck for two people to sweep in the same room.
14. If your palm itches, moneys coming your way.
15. Second person off the match gets pregnant

Yes, yes...I totally fell for the step on the crack break your mother's back thing. (Some people in school would purposely jump on cracks and laugh~gasp).

Tim and I would hold our breaths as we drove past grave yards.
